Abstract

This report article presents a community service initiative aimed at improving the speaking skills of grade IX junior high school students through the implementation of the storytelling method. The study addresses the common challenge faced by students in expressing their ideas effectively and clearly. By utilizing the storytelling method, which has been recognized for its potential in developing speaking skills, creativity, and comprehension, students were engaged in a series of interactive and captivating storytelling activities. The initiative comprised several stages, including teacher training, compilation of relevant story material aligned with the curriculum, and classroom learning sessions. Students were provided with opportunities to practice speaking in front of groups, receiving guidance and feedback from both teachers and peers. Evaluation methods involved participatory observation, individual assessments, and an increase in speaking test scores. The outcomes of this community service initiative hold significant value for educational institutions and can be adapted by teachers and learners alike to enhance students' speaking skills. By nurturing their verbal communication abilities, students were empowered to express their ideas more clearly and develop confidence in public speaking. This report article contributes valuable insights to the field of education, emphasizing the importance of incorporating innovative methods, such as storytelling, to foster students' speaking skills.
