Abstract

This article presents a community service initiative titled "Empowering Vocabulary: A Gamified Community Service Initiative for Enhanced Language Skills." The project focuses on utilizing a gamified approach to improve students' vocabulary skills and language proficiency. The initiative took place at Santa Mathilda Vocational School and spanned two days. The challenge of vocabulary mastery among students was identified, leading to the introduction of a Words Scavenger Hunt game. The game aimed to enhance students' understanding and usage of new words while fostering teamwork, critical thinking, and logic. The implementation of the Words Scavenger Hunt game yielded positive results, with students demonstrating improved vocabulary mastery. Through the interactive and engaging nature of the game, students not only acquired new words but also gained proficiency in using them appropriately in sentences. The collaborative aspect of the game encouraged students to work together, fostering a sense of camaraderie and cooperation. The significance of this community service initiative lies in its ability to address the vocabulary challenge in a creative and enjoyable manner. By incorporating gamification, the project aimed to create a positive learning environment that enhances students' educational experience. The initiative offers benefits beyond language skills, as it promotes teamwork, critical thinking, and logic development. The outcomes of this project have implications for educators seeking innovative approaches to enhance language skills. The gamified community service initiative can be adapted and implemented in various educational settings, catering to students at different proficiency levels. The project's versatility and interactive nature make it a valuable tool for improving language proficiency while fostering essential skills. The implementation of the Words Scavenger Hunt game resulted in improved vocabulary skills and promoted teamwork, critical thinking, and logic development. This initiative serves as an inspiring model for other educational institutions, offering an innovative approach to enhance language skills and create an engaging learning environment.
