Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the ability to write short messages in English for junior high school students in Manggarai through the use of resource-based learning (RBL) methods. The research was conducted in the context of high school education with a focus on nursing program students at SMPK St. Francis Xavier Ruteng. This study used a classroom action research approach with two cycles and qualitative and quantitative data analysis methods. Data was collected through observation, field notes, and student short message writing tests. The results showed that the use of the RBL method was effective in improving students' ability to write short messages in English. There was a significant increase in the percentage of students who achieved success. In the first cycle, only 4 students (13.79%) showed ability, while in the second cycle the number increased to 12 students (41.37%). This activity makes a positive contribution to the development of junior high school students' English writing skills, especially in the context of short messages. In implementing the RBL method, students are involved in the use of relevant and varied resources, which help them improve their writing skills and understanding of English. The results of this study indicate that RBL can be an effective approach in teaching English ESP in secondary schools.
