Training on Procedural Text Writing Based on Cognitive Deep Learning Assisted by AI at SMAK Santu Ignasius Loyola Labuan Bajo

Abstract

The ability to write procedural texts is an important competence in Indonesian language learning because it requires structural accuracy, clear sequencing, operational language use, and systematic thinking skills. However, in classroom practice, students often face difficulties in composing procedural texts that are coherent, clear, and linguistically appropriate. This problem is related to writing instruction that tends to focus on the final product and has not fully provided space for students to experience deep cognitive processes. This community service activity aimed to improve teachers’ and students’ understanding and skills in procedural text writing based on Cognitive Deep Learning assisted by Artificial Intelligence at SMAK Santu Ignasius Loyola Labuan Bajo. The activity was conducted through training and mentoring consisting of initial observation, technical preparation, material presentation, AI-assisted writing practice, mentoring in procedural text writing, and reflection. AI was used as a supporting technology to help students generate ideas, develop outlines, improve structure, receive feedback, and revise texts. The results showed that the training helped participants understand writing as a gradual cognitive process, beginning with conceptual understanding, text analysis, writing production, evaluation, reflection, and revision. Teachers and students also gained new experiences in using AI ethically and pedagogically to support writing instruction. It is concluded that procedural text writing training based on Cognitive Deep Learning assisted by AI can serve as an innovative strategy to strengthen digital literacy, improve writing skills, and promote more active, reflective, and contextual Indonesian language learning.
