Abstract

Handling economic inequality in Manggarai Regency can be pursued through the utilization of local resource potential such as the determination of superior commodities that are able to compete in the national and international markets. The purpose of the study is to analyze superior commodities and analyze appropriate strategies in the development of superior commodities in Manggarai Regency. The methods used in this study are Location Quotient (LQ) analysis and SWOT analysis. The data used are primary data and secondary data. The results showed that the leading commodities in Manggarai Regency were chickpeas, cauliflower, carrots, temulawak, avocado, apples, durian, rambutan, coffee and tobacco and the average value of the LQ index from all these commodities is > 1. Based on the SWOT analysis the results obtained are are needed to improve the quality and production of superior commodities and form a Local Economic Development research institute and form potential regional clusters
