Abstract

ABSTRACT

Science learning in elementary schools cannot be separated from the nature of science which refers to three things, namely science as a scientific process, scientific product and scientific attitude. This means that science is not only taught to the extent of mastering science concepts, but must provide students with experience carrying out scientific processes through a series of practical activities. Science learning that does not provide students with experience carrying out scientific processes causes students not to have adequate science process skills. Science process skills are all the skills needed to acquire, develop, and apply science concepts, laws, and theories, whether in the form of mental skills, physical (manual) skills, or social skills. In science learning in elementary school, teachers can develop science process skills in students by using a scientific approach; constructivist learning models such as problem-based learning, inquiry-based learning, discovery learning, cooperative learning, contextual teaching and learning; appropriate learning methods; availability of appropriate teaching materials and learning media; and authentic assessment.
