This research is motivated by the use of smartphones among elementary school age children which affects the development of the child itself. This study aims to determine the effect of smartphone use on the character of elementary school-aged children in Longgo, Pong Leko Village, Ruteng District, Manggarai Regency. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were the parents of elementary school-aged children in Longgo, Pong Leko Village. The data collection technique in this study was an interview with an interview guide as a research instrument. The data were analyzed using the following procedures: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the use of smartphones for elementary school age children in Longgo, Ruteng District has a significant influence on changes in children's character such as children being alone in their rooms more often, being indifferent, less sensitive to the surrounding environment and less communicative with others.
