Abstract

Bilingualism is a habit or behavior to use two languages in a language community (Speech
community). This study aims to describe the use of bilingualism in the Waso community in one-way
communication. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The data source is speech obtained
from the Waso community. The data in this study are in the form of phrases and sentences. Data
collection was carried out using the listening method and assisted with tapping and note-taking
techniques. Data analysis was carried out using the equivalent method, while the validity of the data
was carried out using source triangulation, method triangulation, and theoretical triangulation. The
results showed that the Waso community was able to master two languages at once in one-way
communication so that the listener was only able to understand the meaning of each speech conveyed
by the speaker. This is evident from some of the data obtained. In communicating, not only adults can
use two languages, but early childhood is also able to use two languages at once.
