Abstract

Nurture theory in gender studies is a theory which states that there are differences between
women and men in terms of roles and tasks. This occurs because of changes in social, cultural,
family influences, environment, media, peers, and learning outcomes in the community. The
main conflict contained in the women's novel Jogja by Achmad Munif is the existence of injustice
and polygamy perpetrated by a man. The data source of this research activity is the novel
Perempuan Jogja by Achmad Munif, the 2nd edition with a total of 295 pages published by
Spektrum Nusantara Yogyakarta in 2019. The data collection technique used is the reading
and writing technique, while the data analysis used is content analysis. The validity of the
data used is qualitative triangulation. The results of the study can be described as follows: (1)
the conflicts experienced by the characters in the novel Perempuan Jogja by Achmad Munif are
injustice and polygamy. However, injustice is a prominent conflict in the novel. Overall from the
results of the study that the conflict of injustice and polygamy is a conflict caused by the
absence of a sense of concern for the feelings of a woman committed by a man. (2) the
differences in roles and duties between women and men according to the theory of nurture in
gender studies contained in the novel Perempuan Jogja by Achmad Munif means that these
differences in roles arise because they are adjusted to changes in social, cultural,
environmental influences, family/parents, learning outcomes, media, friends, the times,
circumstances and conditions of a person, giving rise to differences in roles or tasks between
women and men. In addition, these differences also arise due to the physical and psychological
differences that they both have. It can be concluded that the theory of nurture and conflict
contained in the novel Perempuan Jogja by Achmad Munif is closely related to the lives of
women in terms of roles or tasks contained in domestic life.
