Abstract

This study aims to see the representation of agrarian society in Manggarai literature in three poems from the collection of poems Innosenius Sutam Ca Léléng Do, Do Léléng Ca or one equals many, many equals one. This research is qualitative research using a literature study. The primary sources are three poems entitled Manggarai, Tana Jari Manik Laing, Tana Manggarai, Osang Momang, and Bincar Le Mose Di'a (1). In contrast, the secondary sources are scientific journals and books to support the theories used to analyze literary works. An anthropological approach is used to reveal the symbols representing the agrarian culture of the Manggarai people, and the Stuart Hall concept of representation is used to see the representation of the symbols of the agrarian society. The research results show that these three poems by Inosensius Sutam represent the agrarian Manggarai community by using representations of flora, fauna, and landscapes. Every life cycle of the Manggarai people cannot be separated from their environment and becomes something that distinguishes them from literature from other regions.
