KESALAHAN KOHESI DAN KOHERENSI DALAM TEKS EKSPLANASI SISWA KELAS IX SMPN 11 RUTENG

Abstract

This study aims to describe the cohesion and coherence of explanatory texts written by IX grade students of SMPN 11 Ruteng. Cohesion is a cohesive form of language that marks a coherent and communicative text because every element in it is interconnected. Meanwhile, coherence is the integration of th e meaning of language in sentences and paragraphs so that sentences and paragraphs have a logically reciprocal relationship. This research is classified as a qualitative type with a descriptive approach. Descriptive data of this study in the form of senten ces and paragraphs in the explanatory text of grade IX students of SMP 11 Ruteng indicated there were cohesion and coherence errors. Data collection techniques in this study are read and note. The process of collecting data is done by means of students bei ng asked to write explanatory texts. The process of data analysis begins with the researcher reading and recording data into a data card. The results of this study indicate a total of 45 errors. First, cohesion errors amounted to 18, including 7 replacemen t cohesion errors, 5 designation cohesion errors, 4 cohesion errors, 1 cohesion of repetition cohesion, and 1 synonym error. Second, coherence errors totaled 27, including 15 sequential linkages errors, 5 time linkages errors, 4 cause - effect links errors, 1 resistance linkages error, and 1 usability linkage error.
