TINDAK TUTUR ILOKUSI DALAM NOVEL AYAH KARYA ANDREA HIRATA

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the illocutionary speech acts contained in the novel Ayah
by Andrea Hirata. Illocutionary speech acts are speech acts that are intended to provide
information to the speech partner to do what the speaker wants. The type of research used in
this research is descriptive qualitative. The data source of this research is the novel Ayah by
Andrea Hirata published by Bentang Pustaka in 2015 with a total of 412 pages. The data of this
research are in the form of quotations containing illocutionary speech acts. The method used in
this study is intensive reading with data collection techniques, namely note-taking techniques.
The steps used in analyzing the data were reading novels, marking, and recording data related
to the types of illocutionary speech acts, classifying the data, and writing them into tables or data
cards, analyzing the data, and concluding the research results.
The results showed that the novel Ayah by Andrea Hirata found 116 types of illocutionary
speech acts. The types of illocutionary speech act in the novel Ayah are divided into five types,
namely directive, assertive, commissive, expressive, and declarative speech acts. There are 35
directive speech acts, 19 assertive utterances, 17 commissive utterances, 36 utterances
expressive, and 9 declarative utterances. In the novel Ayah, the most dominant illocutionary
speech act used is the expressive speech act.
