Background: Adolescence is a stage of identity formation from childhood to adulthood which is marked by sexual maturity. At the beginning of the adolescent transition period, many physical, social and emotional changes occur. One of the factors that influences the problem of teenage pregnancy is the low level of knowledge. Lack of knowledge about sexual health and reproductive health causes teenagers to engage in negative behavior such as premarital sex which leads to pregnancy in adolescence.
Objective: To determine the knowledge of young women at SMKS Karya Ruteng about the risks of pregnancy at a young age.
Method: This is a descriptive study using a cross-sectional approach. The research subjects were 109 female teenagers from grades X to XII at Karya Ruteng Vocational School who were selected using proportional random sampling. Data was collected using questionnaires and observations. Statistical tests use univariate analysis.
Results: Of the 109 respondents, the results showed that 65 people (59.64%) had poor knowledge, 24 people (22.01%) had sufficient knowledge and 20 people (18.35%) had good knowledge.
Conclusion: the lack of knowledge among teenagers is caused by teenagers not being active in accessing information related to the risks of pregnancy at an early age. Apart from that, teenagers also receive less information from health workers, parents and the social environment.
