Abstract

The demands of an Early Childhood Education (PAUD) teacher lie not only in their professional qualifications and competencies, but also on their personality competencies. Quite a lot of PAUD teachers have good qualifications and professional competencies but lack personality competencies. This will have an impact on the ability of teachers to approach and assist early childhood. Therefore, a personality competency test for a prospective PAUD teacher needs to be carried out. This study aims to develop a personality competency test instrument for a prospective PAUD teacher.

The research approach used is a quantitative approach. This approach is used because the researcher developed a personality test instrument. In developing the instrument, various quantitative tests are needed to ensure that the instrument developed has a good level of content validity, high construct validity and is suitable for use as a personality test measurement instrument. The subjects in this study were students of the PG PAUD UNIKA Santu Paulus Ruteng Study Program totaling 199 people who were determined based on the simple random sampling technique.

The initial design of the instrument amounted to 50 items. The results of the content validation test and testing by the validators found that 50 statement items were valid, eligible to be used in making questionnaires and distributed to respondents. In the construct validation test, it was found that only 16 items were valid and in accordance with the theoretical model. In addition, the researcher also found that the invalidity of each item of the instrument was strongly influenced by the inconsistency of the respondents, where respondents may not give the same answer to items that have the same statement. Respondents did not understand the statement of each instrument item, how to fill in the instrument which might be confusing for respondents where the research instrument used a differential semantic scale with a scale of 7 and there were also item numbers that were skipped or items that were not filled in. Meanwhile, based on the results of the reliability test, 16 items which were declared valid were also declared reliable. Thus, the development of this instrument resulted in 16 items of instruments that can be used as a means of measuring the personality competence of PAUD teacher candidates. The 16 instruments consist of components of Self-Acceptance, Sense of Togetherness, Democratic Character, and Sense of Humor.
