Abstract

The underlying reason for this research is the lack of teacher readiness in implementing the 2013 Curriculum. Reality showed there is still a teacher-centered process. Students are considered objects of learning. This is contrary to the 2013 curriculum. In the 2013 curriculum, learners are required to actively participate during the learning process. This research aims to describe the ability of early childhood education teachers in applying scientific approaches. This research used description qualitative type. The subjects of the study were early childhood education teachers in Satar Mese Utara District of Manggarai Regency with total 28 people. Data collection used interviews, observations, and documentation studies techniques. Data analysis used data reduction, data display, data verification and conclusion stages. The study found that the teachers understand well concept of the scientific approach in the 2013 Curriculum. But in its implementation, teachers have not been able to apply scientific approaches appropriately. The disadvantage experienced by teachers was that they have not been able to translate concepts into learning devices based on scientific approaches. It causes teachers to be unable to carry out the learning process by using scientific approaches correctly.
