Peer Review Process

The English Language Education Journal (ELEJ) follows a structured peer-review process to ensure the quality, originality, academic rigor, and relevance of submitted manuscripts. The following steps are used as the journal’s official peer-review procedure.

  1. Manuscript Submission

Authors submit their original manuscripts through the ELEJ online submission system. Manuscripts must be written in English and follow the journal template and APA 7th edition referencing style. Submissions must not have been published previously or be under consideration by another journal.

  1. Initial Editorial Screening

The editor checks whether the manuscript fits ELEJ’s focus and scope, follows the author guidelines, meets basic academic and language standards, and demonstrates sufficient relevance and originality. Manuscripts that do not meet the requirements may be returned to the authors or rejected before external review.

  1. Plagiarism and Similarity Check

The editorial team checks the manuscript for plagiarism, inappropriate text reuse, and other potential publication ethics concerns. Manuscripts must meet the journal’s originality and publication ethics requirements before proceeding to peer review.

  1. Assignment to Reviewers

Suitable manuscripts are assigned to qualified reviewers whose expertise matches the manuscript’s subject area, such as English language teaching, applied linguistics, English for Specific Purposes (ESP), language assessment, or discourse analysis.

  1. Double-Blind Peer Review

The manuscript is evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of the authors and reviewers are concealed from each other. Reviewers assess the manuscript’s originality, theoretical foundation, methodological rigor, analysis, interpretation of findings, academic writing, and contribution to the field.

  1. Reviewers’ Recommendations

Reviewers submit written reports containing comments, suggestions, and recommendations. Possible recommendations include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection. Reviewers provide expert advice, while the editorial team retains responsibility for the editorial decision.

  1. Editorial Decision

The editor considers the reviewers’ reports and the manuscript’s overall quality before communicating a decision to the corresponding author. The decision may be acceptance, revision, or rejection. A revised manuscript may be returned to the reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.

  1. Manuscript Revision

Authors receiving a revision decision must revise their manuscripts in accordance with the reviewers’ comments and editorial instructions. They should submit a revised manuscript and a point-by-point response explaining how each comment has been addressed, including justification for any suggestions not adopted.

  1. Final Evaluation and Acceptance

The editor evaluates the revised manuscript and determines whether the revisions adequately address the required changes. Further revisions may be requested before a final acceptance decision is made.

  1. Copyediting, Proofreading, and PublicationAccepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, language and reference checks, layout preparation, and final proofreading. The article is then published in the appropriate ELEJ issue according to the journal’s publication schedule.

Ethical Principles

Throughout the review process, ELEJ ensure the following principles:

  • Confidentiality: Manuscripts and review reports must be treated as confidential.

  • Objectivity: Reviews must be fair, constructive, and based on academic merit.

  • Conflict of interest: Editors and reviewers must disclose relevant conflicts and decline assignments when impartiality may be compromised.

  • Research integrity: Plagiarism, duplicate submission, fabricated data, and other forms of research misconduct must be addressed in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics policies.

  • Editorial independence: Final publication decisions rest with the authorized editor, informed by the reviewers’ recommendations.
