Abstract

This article explores the relevance of ethics and the social responsibility of school principals in addressing the complex challenges of 21st-century education arising from globalization, digitalization, and diversity. Principals are expected to serve as moral leaders who provide direction and exemplify ethical conduct. Leadership ethics are defined as the principles and values that guide transparent, accountable, and beneficial decision-making, encompassing integrity, transparency, respect, fairness, and altruism—supported by the concepts of transformational and servant leadership. A principal’s social responsibility includes a commitment to social justice, the creation of a safe learning environment, the management of stakeholder relationships, sustainability, philanthropy, and good governance. The challenges of 21st-century education include disparities in access, demands for 4C skills (critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication), and technological integration. Integrating ethics and social responsibility is crucial for decision-making, building trust, fostering a positive school culture, and improving the quality of education that is humane, equitable, inclusive, and relevant for the future.
